Securitization and the Mortgage Mess

The problem with securitization is that it dilutes individual responsibility. The mortgage broker can easily become disconnected from the outcome of the initial lending decision. Federal regulation is needed to ensure that mortgage originators perform the appropriate due diligence in matching potential borrowers with loan products. This article -- clearly a personal opinion -- takes a careful lokk at the problem of the mortgage meltdown. It is 20-20 hindsight to be sure, but it valuable for that. Only when understanding the lead-up can one look for a resolution.
