I recommend Max Hastings' comments in the Financial Times today (Sept. 23). He observes that "[m]any of those who know most about Afghanistan on both sides of the Atlantic are doubtful that success of the allied cause is attainable." I think Obama should have been seeking help from Russia, Iran and China.
