Quick assessment of efficacy of troop increase in Afghanistan, and US public opinion.

I recommend Max Hastings' comments in the Financial Times today (Sept. 23). He observes that "[m]any of those who know most about Afghanistan on both sides of the Atlantic are doubtful that success of the allied cause is attainable." I think Obama should have been seeking help from Russia, Iran and China. These countries are in the immediate vicinity and have a large interest in avoiding an Afghanistan controlled by Muslim extremists. The US is the wrong country to be attempting ... More »
