This is quality journalism because it is passionate. The author has strong convictions about our country. His piece is constructed to clarify a prevoius article, which he has recieved flak for. He does not apologize for his opinions about 'fringe element' statement. He continues to elaborate on why he feels that way. While elaborating he shares wonderfull insight into our progressive and fragile nation. As a nation we think we have evolved passed the Jim Crow laws and segragation; however, we are not immune to a backlash to bigorty. The piece is not particularly well researched because it is mostly opinion but it has conviction. The writers voice echoed in my head as i read. To me that is jarring journalism.
