Senator Obama in The Summer of Awful

Those of us who have been strapped into this dark ride -- arms and legs locked into the tram, following these crimes and scandals and unconstitutional measures for too long... we've been damaged a little. We've been round-house kicked in the throat once too often. Sometimes by members of our own party. So it makes sense when some of us express shock or disillusionment at the actions of a politician regardless of their party affiliation. Besides, there's ... Full Story »

This personal viewpoint starts off slowly, but starts to raise some good points about halfway through. I've never agreed with a single politician on everything. All of them take stands on issues that do not align with mine. Liberals I know seem to have a tendency to fall in love with a candidate and convince themselves this will be the champion they have looked for. They are often disappointed--frequently because they simply did not pay attention to the actual candidate. Obama is not as liberal as the right would like you to believe or the left had hoped. I could have told you that months ago. It used to crack me up when I heard bloggers painting now-congressman Jerry McNerney as some great liberal. I knew Jerry and worked on his campaign staff. Nice man, smart fellow, and I trust him with my tax money a lot more than the guy he replaced. But he is not now and never has been a liberal. It's just as well as the district he represents is not either. Though, in the land of the gerrymandered, a few parts are. They are mightily disappointed. But the far right doesn't like him much either. The same thing is happening with Obama and he seems somewhat surprised to discover the press is hanging on his every word, twisting more than a few to fit their story lines, and blowing the rest out of proportion to whip up the electoral hysteria they believe sells newspapers and advertising time. Grow up people. This is what our media does. And you don't have to be around more than a few campaigns to find that out. Disgusting? Yes. But I learned long ago that you can't change anything you can't admit.
