Please, Please, Reporters with Brains

For the McCain campaign to put out a memo to reporters claiming that Obama has adopted McCain's policy only shows that his advisors believe that a sizable percentage of the political press is made up of incorrigible morons. And it's hard to disagree with the judgment. Full Story »

The article states it’s hard to argue with the McCain staff’s judgement that ‘a sizable percentage of the political press is made up of incorrigible morons.’ Perhaps the reason so many criticize journalists is because it’s only journalists we see and read. None of us are privy to pressures being put on those journalists by their Bushie corporate executives. Continual pressure to praise McCain’s every utterance–no matter how inane–and to obfuscate everything about Obama, no matter how logical. The degree of idiotic media utterances and behavior rises exponentially with the increase in neocon desperation.

This short opinion piece has minimal journalistic merit. The author provides no sourcing. He has not read the even the Washington Post or New York Times, both of which have reported on the excellent progress in free Iraq, which is why Senator Obama is in the midst of a pivot to supporting U.S. policy. The author is unaware that we have had troops in Germany, South Korea and other countries for more than 50 years, which is what McCain was referring to.

My only question: why isn't this story on Page One of the NY Times? I do disagree with Marshall on one point. Other journalists aren't necessarily stupid (however, some clearly are)-- they may just be doing what they are paid to do-- eg their boss's will. That said, I do get really sick of content-free discussions on tv-- even MSNBC which is the best of a sorry lot. Talking heads speculate endlessly about what will happen or what is somebody's motivation-- just one unsupported opinion after another, usually about something that is trivial anyhow, and containing no information. Go, Marshall!
