Disaster Capitalism, State of Extortion

...today's preferred method of reshaping the world in the interest of multinational corporations is to systematically exploit the state of fear and disorientation that accompanies moments of great shock and crisis. With the globe being rocked by multiple shocks, this seems like a good time to see how and where the strategy is being applied. Full Story »

"... the invasion of Iraq neatly creates the argument for its subsequent pillage." Klein is visionary and articulate in describing the current events in the plundering of Iraq, in the framework of her major book "Shock and Awe."

In my opinion this is excellet journalism. If every American would read this article, then study the seminal work "Shock Doctrine" they would understand who the real terrorist enemies of America are. After reading "Shock Doctrine" I was prompted to obtain Ms. Kleins "No Logo" published 10 years ago. NOW is the perfect time to read (or re-read) No Logo. It was the perfect precursor to todays events. Particularly, for example, with regard to Burma, the American Corporate support of the despots to maintain "Export Production Zones". This opinion piece has minimal journalistic merit. The author did not do any reading on the oil industry, and only discusses the smaller oil companies like ExxonMobil, rather than the big companies. The author is equally ignorant about agriculture, not even knowing that genetically-modified crops have been around for millenia; indeed they are all we have (with the exception of trivial crops like wild blueberries). And "opening the last of the wildlife refuges" is the stupidest statement yet on the entire oil situation. If only stupidity got ratings, this would be a winner!

As always Naomi Klein is excellent. It is always an extreme pleasure to read her articles. She is very informative, incisive and presents a picture of the corruption of our country and corporations. It is apparent more so in the present administration. However, the oil industry & major corporations have been sloshing over us for too long a time. It is with pleasure whenever I read her articles. She is so insightful and very courageous. I have clicked her political viewpoint as Center because she is providing us with a competent picture of current situation.
