At times it's difficult to discern what information in this story came from the Congressional committee and what is the Times' original research. Anonymous sourcing, while risky, adds depth to what could otherwise have been a more basic news report. Good context, first-rate reporting.

Important story that indicates that the United States State Dept appears to be undermining the new Iraqi government in helping set up oil deal's for friends of the Bush administration. Follow up stories on how much is the oil deal worth, how much has Hunt given to the presidential library and campaigns, and what are the next steps of Waxman's committee are needed. Links to copies of the emails would help substantiate the story. Sounds like the US Gov is telling oil companies that we are suppose to warn you that deals are at risk but go ahead and this is where the best opportunities are.

The parties interviewed in this story seem reluctant to speak candidly about what happened, but it appears as though the New York Times did try hard to get people to talk. I hope the Times continues to investigate the connections between State Department employees and private US business interests as the last quote of the story suggests the possibility of a culture of corruption with the Department of State.

An excellent in-depth, well researched article which rips open yet one more Bushie scandal. Quoting: ‘Disclosure of those contracts has provided substantial fuel to critics of the Iraq war, both in the United States and abroad, who contend that the enormous Iraqi oil reserves were a motivation for the American-led invasion–an assertion the administration has repeatedly denied.’Buy Bush a library; be first in line for Iraqi oil.

As if we didn't more prove of this administration's blantant corruption, this article says it all. It's worthy of front page news, but of course, in this country it's not. If it doesn't concern Paris Hilton, or more recently Christie Brinkley, the mainstream news media doesn't show much interest. Again, excellent article!

It effectively covers the communication between Hunt Oil and the State Department. I was left with the feeling of wanting more information and in particular Waxman's thoughts. It is appalling that officials of the administration are not more accountable. We are a supposed Democracy. Certainly this isn't a top secret story that would effect the nation's security.
