Mr. Sullivan writes that the RS article on General McChrystal got written because its author was not a member of "Washington journalism" and therefore was not interested in maintaining bridges/access for the sake of career advancement.

This commentary makes an excellent point. When the press fails to ask the hard questions we get poorer information. It is truly hard to be well informed and this is one key reason.

This exceptional blogpost remind us, yet again, that sometimes responsibility falls on the shoulders of independent journalists and unpaid freelancers who are bound only by the constraints of conscience, imagination, and ability. Yes, it was difficult for the professional reporters to write that 'McChrystal's supreme Special Forces arrogance has long been a big problem.'

The article bears the truth about mainstream press and it's unwilling sometime to expose those people of power and the rationale behind it. But being that the press is supposedly the watchman of the Democracy that rationale must be jettison when the welfare of our Country and citizens are at stake.
