I woudln't consider this good journalism, but it had value in that it informed me of a hearing which got no coverage in the mainstream media and only one prominent story in the general (as opposed to GLBT oriented) alternative media, a well-written opinion piece in the (Madison, WI) Capital Times. --See Deb Price's "Congress learns ABCs of transgender bias." http://www.madison.com/tct/opinion/column/293986), which I would not have found without reading this piece. The author provides a summary of the testimony and an opinion about the politics involved in getting the hearing, but is a bit geared towards insiders and is derogatory of the opposition, which while understandable, does not help persuade the general reader. I feel this is quality journalism because research and background on the subject must be done in order to create good and interesting articles. The author of this article gave credited sources and seemed knowledgable in the subject that does not get much media attention. I enjoy hearing about the advances in the fight for equal opportunities in the transgendered community as they are not often shown in the general media.
