Unlike liberal critics of capitalist inequities, of course, Beck and his claque are driven by an over-the-top detestation of government. Rich's point in writing about Glenn Beck is unclear. He seems to be suggesting that Beck is a sort of populist, voicing a sort of nonpartisan suspicion and frustration with politics in general in the U.S. I'm not sure that's what he's driving at, and if it is, he could make the point more clearly. Rich seems to be getting pithy when he contends that "[t]oo many Americans are impatiently waiting for results" of the administration's stimulus measures. But ar all these impatient Americans possessed of the "rage" that is clearly Rich's subtext? That is highly unlikely.
