Bush's Senioritis

President Bush's contempt for those who question him or doubt his accomplishments has been on full display lately.

That two thirds of Americans are now in that category apparently hasn't made him any more receptive to their concerns-- quite the opposite.

When British Sky News reporter Adam Boulton today challenged Bush on his dedication to freedom, suggesting that Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib represented "the complete opposite of ... Full Story »

great ..entertaining and due to the many citations.. accurate. After all these years Bush should no longer get the benefit of the doubt. Not to worry Froomkin is free of the kid gloves, with tongue in cheek he is hard hitting. Interesting to hear all the questions W actually answers for the brit news reporters. Definitely not the usual post style or American MSM slow pitch softball.

Although columnists are expected to be biased and therefore, given some latitude for their lack of fairness, Froomkin fails on almost every aspect in this piece about Bush. It's not that it lacks balance because we are expecting that. But it is poorly written and doesn't seem to have a point other than Bush is an idiot, and even that point isn't clearly expressed. To begin with, what does he mean by "senioritis"? To me that refers to seniors in school skipping classes just before they graduate etc. The term doesn't really compute for me on this topic. The piece rambles, is disjointed, and fails to make a clear point. No matter how much I might agree with the possible topic here, Froomkin has dropped the ball on this one. Maybe ... More »

Dan Froomkin, washingtonpost.com columnist, writes, “President Bush's contempt for those who question him or doubt his accomplishments has been on full display lately.” Froomkin then quotes parts of interviews to which Bush has submitted during his farewell European tour. The Washington gadfly demonstrates two things. First, that British news people, unlike the Washington press corps, are not frightened of asking hard questions. Second, that Bush’s obtuseness is impenetrable. As the columnist laments, “George W Bush looked remarkably untroubled by self-doubt as he crossed Europe last week.” Froomkin also examines work of McClatchy Newspapers that shows torture and abuse has been a systemic outgrowth of decisions by White ... A very informative interview that (in my opinion) shows an imperial style leader whose words illustrate how out of touch with his country he really is.

This was excruciating. It was the content...no it was the presentation...uhmmmm. Both? or maybe it was the length. Maybe if Froomkin had just excerpted from the transcript?...My apologies to the NewsTrust; I just can't manage a well-crafted review of this one. But, since I read the ENTIRE thing, I'm not about to leave this space blank!

This is a well sourced but rather one sided review of Bush's statements and mis-statements during his European trip. The author capitalizes on Bush's well documented stubborness and lack of introspection. While it is interesting, it doesn't qualify as a news report (too great a bias) and the hodge podge at the end weakens its effect on swaying opinion.

This article shows a contradiction in terms, George Bush. Our Prez in disconnected to what is going on in the world, he listens to those funny voices in his head.
