Obama Preaches To The Choir

Jesus Christ would not vote for Barack Obama," said Alan Keyes, shortly before losing his Senate seat to Barack Obama, in 2004.

And yet Obama - despite Jeremiah Wright, despite the Muslim rumors - has had a far better relationship with the religious right than you might think. The masterstroke comes next week, when the Obama campaign launches The Joshua Generation Project (Sounds both Biblical and sci-fi, no?). Its goal: to solicit, engage, and ... Full Story »

The role evangelicals will play in this election is an interesting one (liberals might even say it is "morbidly delightful"), but this article does practically nothing to address the issue. In particular, the commentary falls far short of showing that "McCain has ceded evangelicals...to the Democrats." It is true they are not happy with McCain, but that is a long, long way from saying they will vote for a pro-choice, progressive candidate. It is reasonable to assume that he will do better than many have thought, given the trend in religious circles to emphasize poverty and the environment, but when evangelicals step into the ballot box, the majority won't vote for Obama. (Of course, we liberals can hope...).

I have news for Mr cease and Desist: He stole "Joshua" from the tree that Catholics use every easter in order to pay homage to people of good works, e.g., the saints. Further, no one can steal a name and Joshua is clearly a name. Only the Murdochian Post can contrive quotes as scare tactics to alert the Right that-oh-oh, don't look now!- Obama is here and he's oraganized and ready to take over. The Post is barely a step above the Enquirere and iif one notices that has become a rag for Murdoch's rants against the perceived left. Every week there is a smear story against Obama or Clinton. Never is there any truth to any of it. Now I understand Hollywood's frustration with the trash media.
