This is a fair and balanced story on the recent Supreme Court decision, what is known and unknown concerning its impact on detainees and the somewhat unusual situation of the litigants. The reporter does a good job of capturing succinctly the crux of the arguments for and against decision.

good article , its a shame that supreme court justices are mouthing Bush talking points. Thier purpose is to interpret the Constitution. How a Supreme Court could agree with the suspension of Habeas Corpus is incomprehensible.

Stout does a good job of condensing the bigger picture that surrounds this historic vote. Though the GOP has long decried "judicial activism," they are perfectly happy to have it happen if it supports their position. On a closely divided court with 4 votes guaranteed to go in support of the presidential power grab, whether or not enough of the others would continue the rule of law was an unknown. With the highest ages on the court in this majority, it underscores the importance of the next presidential election.

I kind of boogied through this because I am in the throes of meeting a deadline for something else, but I was so happy to hear that five Supreme Court justices voted for justice! Not surprising the four outright fascists on the court voted against decency and fairness once again. Kennedy is a weird guy but guess this was too much for even him. The two right wing thugs Bush appointed voted in lockstep with Scalia and Thomas, two of the worst Supreme Court justices ever. This whole sham trial is being brought now in an attempt to help sad old John McCain.
