Mainstream media yawns as Kucinich offers impeachment

On Monday evening, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) took to the floor of the House of Representatives to read out 35 articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush in an almost five-hour marathon.

Kucinich's action made an immediate splash on the Internet. For example, at progressive website Democratic Underground, the historic performance quickly garnered an astonishing 56 separate threads on the most-recommended list. Full Story »

I'm going to preface this review with the disclaimer that I completely agree with the premise of this article - my review is about the article and its journalistic value and its execution. Muriel Kane started out of the blocks on a tear, but shortly thereafter, the article became irrelevant and derailed from the title. 'Mainstream Media Yawns....' would imply that MSM comments on their lack of reporting would be included in the article. There is none. There are quotes and sourcing from the blogosphere, including some unkind words by Salon's Koppleman, and Kucinich's Republican challenger (misstated as opponent.) The information is a compendium of opinions completely devoid of any statements from accused. While the Gitmo approach ... More »

The article points out that the reaction to Kucinich's filing 35 articles of impeachment has been ignored. The article has links to the limited mixed coverage that the story received covering both sides. It is not old news and the 65 pages of detailed information that Kucinich read on the house floor is newsworthy. The Articles of Impeachment contains information from the recent Senate Intelligence Committee’s report listing the lies that Bush told. Kucinich is protecting the constitution and one wonders why MSM is not covering the story.

Raw Story has the obligation to its readership to relay that which the mainsteam does not necessarily cover. Content appears straightforward, viewpoint balanced and objective, a just-the-facts-ma'am sort of piece. Having watched the MSNBC and CNN coverage, however, there was a distinct difference in tone and length of coverage. Not surprisingly, CNN paid only scant attention and a quick mention of the event. MSNB, on the other hand, provided commentary by a consitutional law professor from George Washington University on the value and efficacy of the proceedings. He made mention of some articles not being prosecutable, yet viewed it was nonetheless important, despite the fact that it was inevitably to be sentenced to death in ... More »

I agree with the author of this article. It is unbelievable that the mainstream media has chosen not to cover articles of impeachment against our president. In my book, that is pretty big news. And with the public's sentiments leaning towards this desire, it seems odd that they wouldn't cover this at all. Not even a blurb.

Yes but I would have included more information on which TV stations covered this event and how they covered it.
