The more McCain engages his 'base' the more reporters are connecting dots and labels are now beginning to stick -gaffes, senior moments, memory lapses, flip-flops, and if this last one gets traction, McCain is in real trouble - lies. This article is about the Newsweek interview conducted in Florida last week, which was poorly titled by the magazine as "How to beat a Rock Star: Substance" Here, this writer comments on his and other reporters observations about the interview picking up two gaffes and offers plausible explanations of what may be happening with McCain. Unfortunately for him neither are good things. Others, reviewing the interview itself, note instances of another emerging trait on the campaign trail - McCain's increasing irascibility at being questioned. Watch out and see if reporters next identify instances of McCains' pet remark "Of course not" as code for "here's another flip-flop" There's one in the Newsweek interview: "Have you changed your thinking on wiretapping?" "Of course not" Of course he has and this article clearly lays it out in a paragraph on background. A fair article because its McCains own words and positions that are being analyzed.
