Iraq helped Barack topple Hill, but could hurt him vs. Mac

Already John McCain is painting Obama as a terror appeaser who would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in Iraq. And McCain has some heavy ammunition to back up his attack. In May, American casualties were the lowest since the Iraq war began in ... Full Story »

"Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory"? In what universe does the quagmire in Iraq qualify as victory? Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis are dead. Millions are internal or external refugees. The country is a shambles. Oil production lags behind pre-war levels. Unemployment is rampant. The society has broken down completely. If this is victory, I'd truly hate to see what he sees as defeat. As to the other assertion, that Iraq is well on the way to becoming a bulwark against Iran, it is downright stupid. Perhaps O'Reilly hasn't read the news lately (something I could well believe). The president of Iraq is scheduled to meet with his counterpart in Iran. This will not be the first contact between the two. Both belong to the ... More »

As an opinion article, we don't expect a fair, balanced presentation. But we should expect that even opinion pieces contain factual evidence. This piece is not factual at all and contains nothing but personal attacks and invective, along with that tired, preposterous line about the "liberal media." There is just nothing there to recommend it, no argument, no facts. A waste of time and space.

This is Bill O'Reilly. It is not serious on any level. The column predicts, with no evidence whatsoever, that Iraq is quickly stablizing and will soon be an ally against Iran. Furthermore, when the public learns this, in spite of the best efforts of the media intent on hiding Bush's success, it will vote McCain into office. Yikes! This is basically Bill's summertime reading until the serious business of the War on Christmas heats up again in the fall. To the extent that one might want to rate this as journalism, on a scale of 1-100 it is 1.

This is Bill O'Reilly writing. If you are interested in what the nutty right is thinking, read on. If you are interested in facts or new information, forget it.

Bill O'Reilly's opinion. 'Nuff said. It's not balanced or fair, but surprisingly to me, it's also poorly written. I genuinely thought that he was a reasonably good writer. It's also a view from a parallel universe. In O'Reilly's opinion "McCain must make the case that a victory in Iraq, which means the country stabilizes and becomes an ally against Islamic terror and Iran, means a much more secure United States" Attempting to follow the thread of that logic actually hurt my head.

This article is reflective of the general attitude and delivery of FOX News. Very opinionated, coming across one sided - and talking down at the general public that does not share the same vision. Reading this story is like being lectured-not reported to....

The usual right wing media conglomerate propaganda. Will Americans at some point sicken of anyone's criticising the Bush Iraq disaster being labeled unpatriotic? "Terrorist appeaser" indeed! Bush's policies are what helped to enbolden Iran; without the war Iran would not have nearly the influence in the Middle East as it now has. It can only be hoped that at some point people will stop listening to cowardly crackpots like O'Reilly.

This is an opinion piece, not journalism.

Clearly shows writer's bias towards a certain conclusion (i.e WE CAN WIN in IRAQ) and therefore presents narrow set of eveidence to justify that conclusion without examining wider circumstances. Mentions fewer casulties and increase in oil production as measures of "success" as if those alone were the objective and makes no mention at all how it has translated (or not) into governmental reconciliation and financial self-reliance. Does not mention the fact that the Iraq government is now asking for timed withdrawal as something they see as helpful to stabalization of violence and progress to reconciliation. By the way his defenition of "the WIN" is exactly the status we had before we invaded Iraq (ie. a stable country with an ... More »
