In 2001 and 2002 much was made of women buying SUVs. This is 2008, so for this journalist to believe as McCain does that women in this economy--with the roller coaster ride that is Wall Street and the growing number of unemployed--are the majority of drivers of SUVs is to believe the unbelievable. To use language like "soccer moms, "security moms," "mothers worried about filling up the sport-utility vehicle and paying for groceries," and "hot commodities" is to speak the language of the Republican party. Women are inviduals with individual lives and individual and collective concerns, such as equal pay, universal health care, among others. This journalist quotes Republican and Democratic analysts, and it is clear through these analysts' interpretations that the two parties hold opposite views concerning how best to represent women. That the journalist reveals his attitude toward women by repeating the attitudes of the Republicans makes this article untrustworthy, unfair, not well sourced, and certainly not showing the big picture.
