Did McCain Vote Against Katrina Investigations?

Bravo, Factcheck.org! Even though this is featured as a Newsweek article, the entire piece is from Factcheck.org. In this article, the facts have been checked, and fairly. It quotes from nine sources, including the Congressional Record and McCain's own answers to reporters' questions. Excellent journalism -- it presents the facts and issues very clearly, it is written in understandable language without spin, and allows people to read, digest the facts, look at the sources, and make up their minds for themselves. This story gives thorough background on McCain's dissembling about votes he cast against an independent commission to investigate the government's response to Hurricane Katrina. It provides ample evidence that McCain said the opposite of what he did in response to a reporter's questioning on his votes against the commission. The article does a particularly commendable job of giving background on the amendments that would have established the independent commission, noting that the vote was strict party line.
