A good, broad discussion about the major differences, strengths, and weaknesses of both candidates. No breaking news, though.

Typical he said, she said political reporting from CBS. Not much context, plus it is overly generous to McCain. Says McCain is a maverick, without noting how much he's flip-flopped on every issue to align himself with the far-right elements of the GOP.

Nothing more than a summary of opinions from apposing political consultants about the two candidates. No real new information about stark differences between Obama & McCain. A sense, or perception one gets in reading this piece by Montopoli is that there were more quotes from Republican consultants, like Mark Mellman, making this more a story of McCain strengths over Obama.

This story to me seems like it protects McCain when compared to Obama - fails to point out McCain's well-documented changes in various positions on issues, e.g. overwhelming support for invading Iraq during the run-up to the war. My guess would be that this reporter is going to vote for McCain, which is fine, but the article feels like he wishes to influence readers to vote the same way by taking it easy on McCain.
