Interesting report about McCain's track record from PolitiFact, a project of the St. Petersburg Times and Congressional Quarterly. This service hels people find the truth in the presidential campaign. Every day, reporters and researchers from the Times and CQ will analyze the candidates' speeches, TV ads and interviews and determine whether the claims are accurate.

Excellent journalism. And a creative, unique way of presenting truth-false statements. Just what the Silly Season needs.

I liked how the information was presented and the links for the sources of information. It would be helpful if the topics on the candidates were expanded to included information on executive power issues, taxes, economy, Roe vs Wade and other areas where there are significant differences between the candidates.

Not really an article this is more of an assemblage of facts. The facts are quite revealing. Following the article I found out that McCain graduated at the very bottom of his class at Annapolis.

The facts and nothing but the facts presented in a visually appealing way. The Obama statements thrown in add balance.

Interesting format for educating readers on whether statements by McCain were True, Mostly True, Half True, Barely True, False or Pants on Fire. Details given on each statement. In the "Details" section of each claim are the sources for verifying the truthfulness of the statements.

Good idea but incomplete. The page appears fair at first glance, but the coverage of the number of statements and claims, particularly by McCain, is extremely slim. They rate 53 statements by John McCain. He makes that number statements every 2 or 3 days. This diminishes trustworthiness.

One example: ‘“Ronald Reagan met with Gorbachev; Kennedy met with Khruschev; and Nixon met with Mao — and these were folks who have done horrendous damage not ... More »

The St. Petersburg Times has a "Truth-o-meter" for McCain, Obama and Clinton. It takes statements candidates make and then ranks them on a 6-point scale: true, mostly true, half true, barely true, false, and "pants on fire" (which is just flat-out lying). It is an interesting format of taking precisely what a candidate said, usually just a short sentence, and picking it apart for facts and tone to see where it falls on the scale. Rankings are backed up by pretty lengthy explanations, which also include sources. If you've ever wondered if what the candidates are saying is true, this is a good scorecard-type format. There is a lot of info here: a bit dizzying. You get the sense that candidates say a lot of half-true things, but ... More »

Wow! This PolitiFact.com site is a real find. It's in the spirit of Factcheck.org, but this one is much more fun to read. Read "The McCain File" and all the other "File"s they have.

Interesting approach to evaluating the accuracy of the candidates' statements. Easy to read with many references cited. I had minor quibbles with 2 of the analyses (some room for interpretation that was not addressed) but overall found it very well done.

It's good to have the statements, reviewed and judged on its honesty. I think PolitiFact is a fair place to go in search for the truth.

It is a straightforward bio of McCain. I do like that it presents all of his statements and their veracity with links to dates and sources.

Excellent. Of course, I couldn't judge the fairness until I also read Obama's file. They were both pretty balanced.
