Australia Bolts Iraq Over Bush's Lies

Matilda is walzing home from Iraq, and the Australians are lucky but chastened.

Rudd told Parliament he was most concerned by "the manner in which the decision to go to war was made; the abuse of intelligence information, a failure to disclose to the Australian people the qualified nature of that intelligence"; and the government's silence on "the pre-war warning that an attack on Iraq would increase the terrorist threat, not decrease it." The article presents the evolving condemnation of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq and the lies that lead to the military offensive incursion. Credit is given to truth-tellers who opposed the invasion at that time who have paid various prices such as loss of career and untruthful disparaging personal attacks. This opinion piece has modest journalistic value. In addition to reporting some pieces of information supporting the author's position, there are references to dubious sources that are not credible, such as on Niger, where Ambassador Wilson confirmed efforts by Iraq to obtain uranium. The WMD sources should include France, Germany, Italy and the U.N., which all argued that Saddam had WMD. The Alliance did not liberate Iraq just on WMD, or even primarily, and the author has not read the major sources, including the speeches of the major leaders of the Alliance, not even President Bush.
