A Clinton Reader Catches Obama's Shifting Views on Ethanol

The lavishly-subsidized federal ethanol program is one of the biggest corporate boondoggles off recent times. Eileen O'Connor, a Clinton-supporter based in California, wrote a letter (published below) which charts Obama's flip-flops on the matter, which look like standard politics-as-usual for a typical Midwestern senator. The author casts this as a diatribe against Obama for being a flip-flopper. I read the story and see a candidate who takes in new facts and is not afraid to modify his position to align with the best available information. Much of the US was mis-informed as to the overall effect of corn based ethanol, which helps energy independence, but damages the scene of carbon emissions for global climate change and endangers the supply of affordable food. I would praise him for changing his stance. The story is in support of Clinton, but does not say whether she has enhanced her position based upon the latest information. this seems a fair question in the campaign. clearly sen. obama is learning as he goes, along with all the rest of us. he may feel at this time that he can't win whether he talks in generalities or when he takes a specific policy stand. this is how campaigning works for each of the candidates. there are many questions pressed upon them which do not have easy or simple answers, yet we seem as the letter-writer does, to want that from all of them and supporters of the 'other' candidates are quick to criticize. it seems we get what we demand.

The article talks about Obama’s flip-flopping concerning that most idiotically ridiculous of programs, ethanol. Seems flip-flopping is all the rage at the moment. This article isn’t in the Swift Boat category, but it’s still a political hatchet job masquerading as journalism. And Obama isn’t even the official Democratic candidate yet. Get your B.S. filters cleared, it’s going to be a long Silly Season on both sides of the political spectrum.
