Unmasking McCain: His Reactionary Record on Reproductive Rights

We've seen the exit polls. We've read the unequivocal quotes. Many women who are avowed Hillary Clinton supporters are declaring they won't vote for Barack Obama in the fall.

I get the anger and the disappointment. But to quote SNL's Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers: Really? Full Story »

This is not journalism - although I agree with the premise - this is not a well balanced story. One glaring distinction is the lack of supporting rationale for voting against specific bills. Another glaring distinction between this article and the commentary it actually is ... is that article offers no discussion, on the subject, but rather predisposes the reader is sympathetic. While it may be an incite-ful read - it is not an insightful read, despite the fact that I enjoyed it very much.

This story clearly lays out McCain's track record of voting against a woman's right to choose. It touches on Obama's pro-choice record and doesn't directly comment on Clinton's position because, I suppose, Arianna Huffington assumes Hillary is out of the running.

It is essential that people, especially women, know of McCain's positions and votes regarding women's health and know of them before they vote in November. This story helps to make that possible.

Will women and staff that have given their hearts to Hillary Clinton support John McCain? John McCain has a 25 year record of opposition to the right to choose. NARAL has given Obama a 100% rating McCain received a 0. His campaign website says he he believes Roe v. Wade must be overturned. He is a unswerving friend of the right to life movement." Clinton vs Obama view on reproductive rights are minor. McCainn wants to staying in Iraq . Obama wants universal health care. women have no idea what McCain dose not. On reproductive health. 23% believed McCain agrees with them on choice. Pro-choice supporters are less likely to vote McCain when they learn he is to opposed Roe v. Wade. One line in the piece says it so well, "And yet many voters have no idea how extreme McCain's position on these issues is." Many voters have no idea how extreme McCain's positions on many issues are. This is because he's successfully painted himself as an independent, and the media has been willing to go along with it. Whether or not he gets elected depends largely on whether or not opponents are able to get the word out on his voting record. As this piece ably points out, it will surprise many.

A cut-to-the-bones article. The media are doing everything they can to sustain flip-flop McCain's "maverick" image--independent; courage of his convictions; standing firm against the establishment; tough, etc. It's unbelievable how many people are actually buying it. But behind all this Bushie inspired hype lurks Dick Cheney and George Bush, take two. Reactionary about productive rights? More realistically, he's reactionary about everything. A McCain victory in November dooms ever getting our country back.

This is an opinion piece (or a rant rather) so it is not balanced or fair at all as it presents clearly one side's point of view on an issue laden with emotions. It is quite well written though (you can feel her hate towards McCain) and points to sources to substantiate her presentation of McCain as an evil man who will take away choice from women. As all die hard leftists she of course calls killing human beings "abortion care" or "choice" but that is to be expected. So, overall a good column presenting nicely a very radical point of view.

Ms. Huffington offers plenty of links to justify her editorial opinion. I'm not a great big fan of Arianna Huffington, but this pretty much covers McCain's stance on abortion. What's Obama's stance? Wish we could have heard some of that...

This opinion piece has minimal journalistic merit. The author has not adequately researched the subject, or she would have discovered, for example, that young adults, especially young women, are the most strongly pro-life group in the U.S., making her use of the word 'reactionary' in the title perplexing. She only uses one organization as a source, NARAL, which is a lobbying group for the abortion industry. There is no effort to provide balance.

People, women in particular, need to know the truth about McCain's voting record on women's rights. This man, like the bushies, want to drag us back to the 18th Century as far as women's rights go. Get over your pique and vote for the BEST candidate, not the gender. We have so much to lose. This man is a travesty - no morals, no values. He has sold his soul and I, for one, don't want another soul-less person in the White House. Basta!

Arrianna put together a story that should be read and is well sourced. It's a subject that is highly decisive and McCaine has made his standing on this issue all too clear. Thank you for bringing it to the forefront, and I hope others get a chance to see it. It's clear and concise as a story and deserves all the stars I gave it.
