Let us truly honor our fallen heroes this Memorial Day

On this Memorial Day weekend, absent from the President's speech was concrete, meaningful support-as there should be-for those who are still fighting the wars that were launched under his command.

The story makes good point of Bush's empty "honoring" of veterans and at the same time failing to fund veterans benefits. I have several other problems with memorial day; we honor those who have fought for the US in military conflicts and died, but we do not have similar honors for those who have spent their lives in quest of peace and conflict resolution to avoid wars. Similarly we do not mourn the deaths of the hapless cannon fodder who have died as opponents in our wars. But De Wind makes his point well.
