15,000 to be displaced by proposed Amazon dam

Amazon Indians and environmental activists rallied against proposed Amazon dam projects in the city of Altamira, Brazil on Tuesday. Environmentalists say these developments could displace 15,000 people and destroy traditional fishing grounds of Indians living nearby. Clean hydro power versus the destruction of rain forest and parts of the Amazon ecosystem. Will global warming cause greater environmental damage if more fossil fuels are burned to provide electricity? How to balance the demand for power with the consequences? No answers from this story but it does provide food for thought.

Amazon Indians protested in Altimera Brazil. Fishermen and environmentalists are upset about the building of the Dam on the Xingu river. They rallied in Altamira Brazil. 15,000 people will be displaced. Brazil feels they need the $293 billlion dollar 11,000 megawatt hydroelectric facility Fernando Was Injured during the meeting. Brazil wants to keep out foreign investment. Internationally known Environment minister Marina Silva resigned.
