Right Is Wrong -- How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America

The GOP is now a dark, putrefied party of Bush, Cheney, Rove, Limbaugh and Coulter. And we're all the worse because of it. Full Story »

This blog post by Arianna Huffington is an excerpt of her new book, not a review as originally submitted on NewsTrust. The difference is important, I believe. As a review, I would rate this one star, as it provides no analysis of the book. As a blog post presenting the opinion of the author, this article provides insight into the conversion of a Republican pundit to the ranks of Democratic pundit. Her style comes off as Malkin-esque filled with name calling and condescending comments. Her "facts" are often unsupported and her sources generalized rather than specific. Perhaps this piece doesn't qualify as journalism, in that it is an excerpt of a book, leaving open the possibility that fairness, balance and style might be better ... More »

bravo ..the truth..but again..journalism that comments and doesnt solve...or provoke or suggest the unthinkable ..that there are prosecutable crimes being perpetrated by polticians against those who cant defend themselves..why not suggest that the politicians need to stand trial for war crimes, crimes against humanity over iraq and racketeering over handing jobs to their cronies in the corporate sector, human rights abuses over americans in jails over a faulty plea bargaining system (take a low guilty plea, but lose innocence first, not last) and endemic racial bigotry throughout the education system..this article does an excellent job of articulation and, although further along, does a very poor job in substantive provocation ... An excerpt from Huffington's book and thus is an opinion piece. However, the utter failure of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse--Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, and Bush, and the morass they created--make truth of opinion. No longer can these four keep secret offenses like the outrageous prices of fuel, the mortgage mess, the Iraq debacle, the wretched economy, torture, the immigration fiasco, Disneyland diplomacy, the plunging dollar, special interests' stealing, etc. These are unarguable facts caused by the corruption, greed and incompetence of the Bush administration. The vilest, most criminal administration in America's history.

Arianna's overview speaks the truth I see distilled from the recent sad history of American politics. My lesser path follows Huffington's awakening, except I left in 1980. Her denunciations of the culpability of mainstream media are perhaps most relevant to this forum.

While I fully agree with the authors opinion, this article does not add to the civil discusion. I think there are ways to make these points by being more factual and less shrill.

I was disappointed that the story covered lots of Republican race-related stuff, but not one peep about the Republican candidate most popular on the internet, as well as with campaign donations from the military - Ron Paul. What is he, chopped liver? :-)

This opinion piece has no journalistic merit. The author is entitled to her opinions, but does not understand that millions of people today publish their opinions without any journalistic effort, just like her. This piece is no different from the others. This type of material does not belong on NewsTrust as it cannot legitimately get anything but the lowest rating because it does not involve journalism.

Huffington is as shrill and empty as the so-called lunatic fringe she is criticizing. While her main point that the Reagan Republican party has seriously lost its way is clear, her tenor is unnecessarily harsh and hollow. The piece has little new information and almost no balanced or nuanced discussion.
