Kuwaiti women battle against odds in election

KUWAIT - Whether swathed in veils or dressed in suits, Kuwaiti women are campaigning hard to win parliamentary seats in Saturday's election.

They failed to take any at the last vote in 2006 and once again face an uphill struggle attracting voters in a conservative and male-dominated Gulf Arab state.

Women in the Middle East have to fight for their 15 minutes of fame -- much less a role in government -- and this piece from the area outlines the headwinds any woman in the region faces. What is valuable is that this is an article from the inside, not the outside, looking at the problem.
