However, in 2003, Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ healthcare. The vote came on the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, which contained Sec. 1011 authorizing $250,000 annually between 2003 and 2008 for government reimbursements to hospitals who provide treatment for uninsured illegal immigrants. This story is interesting in that it shows at the very least that Joe Wilson is inconsistent. However, Joe Wilson's opinions and actions on health care are really not very newsworthy.

The boor is getting much more attention than he warrants. It is fitting that one Republican operative called him the "new Joe the Plumber."

Good journalism here. the piece points out the hypocrisy (yet again) behind the Republican challenge to the President's plan, and puts the onus on Wilson and his colleagues to reconcile their voting records with their public chatter.

I hope someone sends Rep. Wilson a copy of this piece.

Just goes to show how things change when politics is the driving factor. George Bush wanted the 2003 bill. So money for illegals was okay--though who knows how it got in there in a Republican Congress. And Shaw doesn't explain. But, when you want to take a Democratic president down, it's different.

Hypocrisy knows no bounds, apparently! And why wouldn't we want undocumented workers to buy insurance? It's cheaper than sending them to the emergency room with no insurance.
