Controversial opinion piece about credibility in journalism, and new initiatives that aim to track that credibility online, through services like NewsCred and NewsTrust. (Disclosure: I am NewsTrust's Executive Director) The author makes the case that the quantitative methods used by both sites may not be as effective as purely qualitative, conversational methods. One can understand the author's hesitation with 'binary' approaches, but he doesn't offer other much in terms of alternatives, and fails to make a good case for why DayLife, the company he helped found, offers a superior solution. This article primarily states the author's opinion, without any factual evidence, credible sources or independent perspectives to back its point. And the coverage of NewsTrust's methodology is very superficial -- the author seems largely uanware of the depth to which NewsTrust tracks the reputation of its own reviewers, both through member ratings and staff validation. That said, we're grateful to be included in this discussion of this important topic.
