This short video report focuses on the 60th anniversary of Israel's founding - what many Arabs refer to as 'Al-Nakba, or 'the catastrophy.' The report shows the contrasting reactions to this event, from western leaders favorable to Israel (e.g.: George Bush), to Palestinian demonstrators who view western support of Israel with frustration. It is helpful to be able to hear these anti-Israeli views, which are often not covered in much depth by american mainstream media. The segment's producer, Jamal Dajani, seems to favor these views, judging from the tone of his commentary, but does a reasonable job of presenting opposing views as well. While Western media covered Israel's 60th anniverssary most ignored the Palestinians' suffering due to the establishment of the State of Israel. Millions of Palestinians are now live in diaspora to make room for the influx of Jewish settlers after WWII. The Palestinan "Nakba" or catastrophe is the other side of the coin of Israel's independence.
