How the military analyst program controlled news coverage: in the Pentagon's own words

On the question of whether the Pentagon maintained an illegal covert domestic propaganda program -- and on the broader question of whether the American media's political coverage is largely shaped and controlled by the U.S. Government -- I don't believe it's possible to obtain more conclusive evidence than this:

This opinion piece has modest journalistic merit. It is poorly sourced, using only items that support the author's ideological position. Only someone with limited knowledge of the media would doubt that most major media are slanted toward the left; every major academic study (Harvard, Chicago, UCLA-Missouri) has come to that conclusion. The author's counterfactual bias thus lowers the value of this piece considerably.
