Obama Needs a History Lesson

In defending his stated intent to meet with America's enemies without preconditions, Sen. Obama said: "I trust the American people to understand that it is not weakness, but wisdom to talk not just to our friends, but to our enemies, like Roosevelt did, and Kennedy did, and Truman did."

This short piece has considerable journalistic merit. The author points out a serious failure of journalists during the past week. He documents it with well-known historical facts that contradict what the candidate claimed. He notes that the press covering the campaign should have questioned Sen. Obama closely on this worst error of fact made by any major candidate thus far this year.
