Ocean acidification is dramatically under way as a part of the pollution from carbon dioxide. The story tells of scientists trying to quantify the effects of various levels of acidification upon oysters. This is one local story of research that is being funded.

Such knowledge will be needed in the hundreds of years it will take for carbon dioxide concentrations to decline.
