Israeli Force, Adrift on the Sea

Hamas is an idea, a desperate and fanatical idea that grew out of the desolation and frustration of many Palestinians. No idea has ever been defeated by force — not by siege, not by bombardment, not by being flattened with tank treads and not by marine commandos. This is one Israeli point of view that entirely forgets that Hamas is the government elected by the Palestinians and that it has grown stronger since the bombing of Gaza. The author seems to assume that Hamas/Gaza/the blockade will just go away as a problem if Israel makes peace with the West Bank.

While making peace with the West Bank is a good idea, I think that it is a fantasy to assume that Gaza will then either negotiate without further concessions or integrate with Fatah. Too many bombs have fallen. Too many people have died. Too many livelihoods have been ruined. Too many homes are in ruins.
