Why does America hate Hillary Clinton so much?

Medusa, bitch, witch, mad cow, DemocRAT...

I'm not a natural supporter, but the degree of vilification she has been subjected to reminds me of the pathological misogyny of the notorious witch-finders' manual, Malleus Maleficarum. Full Story »

In some ways, this story is the other side of the Truthout "Baiting Obama" story, though Obama himself is never accused of misogyny, and Hillary Clinton is accused of inappropriate campaigning against Barack Obama. A few unclear areas: In Pennsylvania, Obama outspent Clinton and narrowed her lead from 26% to 9.4%, so the implication that he made no progress after spending more money is incorrect. And the author's statement that "it may be that racism has gone underground" is grossly inaccurate. Still, it's correct that there are many inappropriate comments directed against Hillary Clinton because she is a woman, and those comments have no place in a reasonable country. We apparently aren't in one.

A lot of information for an opinion piece, the author has done her homework and proves her point handily. Like her, I know a lot of women who support Senator Clinton more to defend her against this sort of smear than because they agree with her policies and voting record. They're just mad and the way one of their own has been so relentlessly attacked. Unfortunately, should she win the nomination, this is just the beginning.
