Dionne properly draws editorial attention to a strangely elevated Supreme Court case that could well threaten democracy in a much worse way than even the extremely partisan appointment of George W to the presidential office.

The usurping of democracy by huge corporations demands reducing corporate influence in government, and here Roberts and his radically regressive right wing justices are seeking to cement the power of big corporations for decades.

Instead of deciding the case before it, the court engaged in a remarkable act of overreach.

Are the precedents “workable”? The answer is clearly yes, which is why there is absolutely no popular demand to let corporate cash loose into our politics. Our system would be less “workable” if the court abruptly changed the law.
