I was impressed with the Mufti. He had summarized a quite complex debate into a very succinct articulation of the tension between Islam and the West. But there was still one question nagging me about his answer. How different is violent extremism from extremism without violence. Don't the two go hand in hand? An intriguing and original look at "the problem" between Muslims and the West, presenting in an informative and entertaining style. Well worth the read, and an interesting counterpoint to the Global Pulse video currently for review on NewsTrust, which looks less successfully at similar issues.

This is journalism in the sence that it offers cogent information with interesting counterpoint and does so in an abbreviated form; thus making it an easy read. Although it strays into another argument; it does so as a way of illuminating the first one very well.

I really liked this piece. Most often I hear the issues of Islam and the West discussed by intellectuals or politicians. The perspectives presented in this post, of a Sudanese religious leader and a South East Asian general, are refreshing and illuminating.
