After The ABC News Debacle: How To Change Media - Why Making Media The Issue Is Crucial For Saving Democracy

How ironic that in the same week that the National Association of Broadcasters gave actor Tim Robins a platform to challenge media gatekeepers to open the airwaves to more perspectives ABC NEWS gave us all a classic example of how a network can dumb down a presidential debate and turn it into a disgraceful hit job rather than an enlightening hit. This is a great blog entry -- if just to hear the ex-Pope's 'dying' words. They should be hung up in media organizations. Danny's background makes him a credible commentator... and he riles you up here, even if he doesn't exactly give a very mature strategy for the changes he envisions (going to the streets probably isn't going to do it)...

Yes it is great journalism. It challenges, suggests, motivates and stimulates informed opinion. Bravo, if you heck my other reviews, I think you may take the view that I am cynical in general about journalistic quality. This article should be compulsory reading not just because of the Pope Jean Paul (deceased) views but because the farce that passes for editorial content needs to be challenged. I will pay for a news service that has unbiased news and attracts no advertising. I am sure that there are many millions who would too. Bravo! Encore, Encore Encore

The author's premise has a fundamental flaw. The situation is the exact opposite of what he claims. Mainstream media audiences are down, and independent voices have more outlets than ever before. The New York Times is (financially) worthless, but there are thousands of blogs like this, with a cumulative audience that far exceeds the remaining Times audience. No journalistic value.
