Iraq War Attitudes Politically Polarized

Republicans reject the idea of a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, by a better than 2-to-1 margin, 65% to 32%. Democrats show an even greater margin in favor of a timetable, with 81% in favor and 15% opposed.

Solid poll results based on responses from a sampling that self-categorized themselves as to party or their position on the political spectrum. It would be interesting to look back to see whether self-categortization has shifted over time.

At last, some facts. Of course, the questions asked of political part supporters can't be couched in terms that get to the nub of the matter, but at least we have an idea now that the idiots running for presidential nomination will at least have a poll that will force them to act in a particular way. Of course theharder question to have been asked by Gallup woudl have been, does America have any valid place to impose its will in any country, given its failure to run its own economy without corruption, but hey..it's a start. I wonder when it will be possible to ask such a political question by appealing to the conscience and actual knowledge of those being asked, I doubt whether most even know which countries border Iraq, let ... For what polls are worth, this one is relatively trustworthy ( I think). But it presents no surprises, so incredibly newsworthy it's not.

Gallup polls are well and carefully done. The advantage of this one is that it makes clear division of who is giving the opinion and exactly what the issue is. The poll does not attempt to develop every possible deviation from the issue. Anyone not yet committed in their own mind as to which political party they would like to identify with could hardly get a clearer picture within this one context.
