This reporter cited a number of sources in covering the story of how Johns Hopkins restored its database after initially responding to a requirement by its funder to remove two citations about abortion advocacy by making "all abortion words" "stop words"--those that a search engine will ignore, usually words such as "the" and "and." The reporter was unable to cite USAID, the funding source, because "officials were at a retreat yesterday and could not be reached for comment." The reporter states that "The change came after librarians and women's health advocates flooded the blogosphere - and e-mail boxes at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health - with complaints of censorship."
