The calls to shield children from exposure to the President's speech are troubling to me, though. Teaching children that they should ignore the views of someone they (or their parents) disagree with is problematic in a democracy. I would have been happier if conservatives had asked to be included in the presentation. Perhaps it would have been even better had the Obama administration thought of this on its own.
