Huge Underwater Oil Plumes Discovered In Gulf

Oil from a blown-out well is forming huge underwater plumes as much as 10 miles long below a visible slick in the Gulf of Mexico, scientists said as BP wrestled for a third day Sunday with its latest contraption for slowing the nearly month-old gusher. Full Story »

This is a thorough and damning report. Lots of links and important background information not included in most articles, which it seems to me tend to be far too generous to BP.

Informative report on the underwater oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. This short story is factual and well-researched, and cites independent sources besides BP, such as Samantha Joye, a professor of marine sciences at the University of Georgia.

The embedded video from ABC News is also very helpful. But I found the NYT story to be the most informative report I read today on this topic (see link).

Straight forward reporting without any hidden political agenda. (A rarity these days.) Expert opinions are quoted factually with editorial comment. However, implicit in this story is the thought that this oil disaster portends grave ecological consequences for generations to come.

BP–which MSNBC says stands for Biblical Proportions (they may be right)–is obviously making this up as they go along with no idea about what the Hell they’re really doing. Remember the operative phrase: PARTIAL CONTROL. Boy! Does that relieve my anxiety!

A good article on the blow-out and the leak plumes, including several links for additional information on the whole matter.

This is the first real good news to come since the blow-out, though there is much more work to be done.

This is the first comprehensive report that does not rely on BP spokespersons but scientists who put into context the scope of this disaster, noting that the spill has created 10-mile plumes that will migrate, reduce oxygen levels in the water, kill wildlife and pollute the seas for decades to come.

This story also documents BP shortcuts in safety. Not only did this cause an environmental disaster but also killed 11 crew members.

While this article contains new information, the facts are not available. We not know much of the oil is come up. Is the BP trying stop the oil or are there trying get the oil?
