The story gives some hope that the church that finally admitted the earth revolved around the sun is moving to think environmental pollution is a "sin." Lets hope they do not sell indulgences to rich benefactors, and that they eventually recognize the need for population control in order to constrain environmental destruction and global warming and mass starvations and wars. An interesting story, and mildly encouraging.
Great topic for a story, but I think it fell a bit short. The story only had one source and went from modern sins, to the fact that Italian Catholics have stopped going to confession. I would like to know more from the church about why polluting and "economic injustices" are new sins.
