A thoughtful, but inconclusive look at the foolishness of the Afghanistan occupation.

if the people regard the central government as illegitimate, then a counterinsurgency campaign has little to go on, no matter how brilliant the commanders or clever their strategy.

With an ill-conceived invasion and occupation, installing a corrupt central government, and deserting Afghanis to invade Iraq, the central government and the occupying army seem to lack legitimacy.
