McCain held to different standard by media

"The press loves McCain. We're his base," MSNBC loudmouth Chris Matthews declared during the 2006 elections.

A new book, "Free Ride: John McCain and the Media" by David Brock and Paul Waldman, identifies Matthews as "the head of the McCain fan club among the establishment press" but says he has plenty of company. Full Story »

The opinion piece does a respectable job of showing the adorations of the big corporate press for one of the most intemperate, militaristic, and facile candidates for president in recent history, and the need for the press to fulfill its responsibility to subject all candidates to critical scrutiny.

"We take people to the top of the mountain and then once we get them to the top of the mountain, it's our job to knock them down," Gloria Borger of CBS said in 2006."--- says it all about how the media seek to tell American's what to think. The book 'McCain: The myth of a maverick' does an excellent job of 'fleshing out' this article.
