This President's Day weekend offered us another demonstration for the proposition that, in the view of the American mainstream media, Afghanistan doesn't matter. And if Pakistan matters, apparently it's only for the tragic-charismatic figure of Benazir Bhutto, which they feel may sell a bit. Pakistan has been a basket case for 60 years. Its hard to get excited about a problem that has always been there, and is likely to always be there. .... Too bad about the nukes. We may see one of them one day.
