While Roberts has an opinion--that McCain is weaker on the environment that the common wisdom would paint him, he provides detailed support for this argument. He acknowledges McCain's courage in going against the Republican tide, citing specific examples, however he criticizes McCain for an anachronistically weak cap and trade bill and on going awol on key votes, when other Senators running for President were there and voted. In some examples, Roberts does not speak to whether all the other candidates voted, so I would need to look up the roll calls before I can assess whether this is only a problem with McCain.
