Christian Right's Emerging Deadly Worldview: Kill Muslims to Purify the Earth

They are part of a dark and frightening war by the Christian right against tolerance that, in the moment of another catastrophic terrorist attack on American soil, would make it acceptable to target and persecute all Muslims, including the some 6 million Muslims who live in the United States. A very important story, this piece does not do it justice. Neither are these three men men effective profiled nor is the larger map of anti-Muslim sentiment in the US drawn.

Although the author didn't do the subject justice, the article emphasizes an important point: the radically right wing religionists with their arrogant, distorted, myopic version of "Christianity" shall tolerate no other gods before them. That they have converted as many followers as they have to donate millions of dollars to their "cause" is frightening. Interestingly, many of these religionist organizations have their headquarters in Colorado Springs--also site of the Air Force Academy.

I gave this a 5 on "recommendation", however, it is an opinion piece with very little real or new information. However, it is an opinion we don't see at all in the MSM, so it is worth reading for this very reason. It is short, too.

Overall, a good article that gets to the root of the problem with our 'War on Terror'. Only complaint is that the author does not go far enough, does not discuss possibilities of what to do with this problem.

Although short on sources, it's long on fact. With minor tweaking it would rate high in all respects.

Most of big corporate media is either dominated by rich white Christians or is financially afraid of rich white Christian clients who would be offended if they attacked the hate teaching of parts of the church community. This piece tells it like it is: a prejudicial false view to generate hate. Hate is a strange poison you digest, expecting it to kill your enemy.

A case study of three Muslim extremists who become Christian extremists. Actually not that much of a change

While an opinion piece, Hedges keeps inflammatory rhetoric in check and opinion at the end on this very important issue. However, the headline downplays the important fact that the reported incident happened at the Air Force Academy, which has been the site of other allegations of religious intolerance aimed at other non-Chrisitians. See this CNN report from 2005: http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/05/03/airforce.religion/ Religious intolerance--not just of Muslims--may, frighteningly, be actively nurtured in the high ranks of our military culture.

Obvious that the author is a nut job. When Christians start doing suicide bombs I'll read the rest of this story.

This vitriolic opinion piece has no journalistic merit. The author is ignorant about Islam. He is ignorant about Christianity, using labels such as "Christian Right" without knowing what they mean. He does not know about the brutal repression of Christians in Muslim countries. Nor does her know about the treatment of women in these countries. Would he find genital mutilation of women, a routine practice in many Muslim countries, acceptable in the U.S.? This article does not demonstrate any effort to become informed about its subject.
