Afghanistan's Sham Vote

The dust had barely settled on the Afghan elections before the U.S. government, the United Nations and the European Union were hailing them as a success, commending voters for their heroism and election workers for their relative efficiency.

It is quality.

Given the history of Afghanistan, I would think any attempt to bring democracy in this country is not possible. The country has never been close to united. Because of its terrain and geography a democracy is impossible at this time. Also there are too many languages is another thing and the lack of transportation and communication outlets to improve things in the immediate future. Illiteracy is another major problem.
