This is well written prose. A sober prose of the nature that most Americans that I come in contact with (of the civic responsible type) usually don't want to hear. It is mature, responsible, stunningly accurate in its relatively short length and fair. A refreshing look at troubled America from the UK that offers perspective and a reality check to the 'immediate gratification' crowd, that has not invested in a groundwork of historical context.

This should be required reading before any political discussion between family or friends that find themselves wearing conflicting symbols on their T-Shirts. Most of them are ginned up by TV info-tainers that are paid to expand the economic zone of the conflict instead - not unlike Fox and Newscorp's cast of unqualified bovine scatological technicians. Instead, this article didn't have bad-guys or good-guys, just some valuable observations.
